The Sheffield Arena is currently known as the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield after the Derby based car Sales Company invested 1 million to rename the venue. The beautiful arena is situated at a convenient point in Rotherham, Broughton Lane, a few minutes drive from Sheffield city centre.
Now celebrating its 20th birthday since its official opening on 30th May 1991 by Queen Elizabeth II, Sheffield arena is currently the home to big name concerts and sporting events. From the very first day of its opening, the arena has been full of activity with its first concert taking place the evening of the day it was opened featuring the then high profile celebrity Paul Simon.
The Sheffield arena hosts annual events that attract mammoth crowds including the Clubland Live tour usually staged around November, the November/December Disney On Ice and a number of TV shows including Britain’s Got Talent Strictly Come Dancing, The X Factor and Dancing On Ice which visit the venue every year as part of their tours.
The arena is also home to The WWE where they normally visit the arena twice a year and they also use the arena to broadcast their weekly RAW and Smackdown TV shows as well as a live PPV called Rebellion.
