Portrait Photography Using A Compact Camera

Today’s compact cameras are capable of producing professional looking photographs that often rival those taken with much more expensive equipment when used properly.

The success of a good portrait photo is ultimately judged by the subject who wants to be portrayed in the best possible light and in a way that they see themselves. Taking a professional approach to this will pay dividends and help you to achieve the best possible results.

Preparation is the key to a successful portrait shot. Take the time to organise the surroundings in a way that will complement the sitter. It may not be feasible to set up a studio scenario for the shot but it is fairly simple to ensure that the background does not spoil the shot or draw your attention away from the main subject.

Another mistake people make is to restrict themselves to a head and shoulders shot, with no explanation to what they are doing. This is fine if you want to apply for a photo ID card but rarely works outside of a studio, set up with effective lighting. You will achieve a more natural effect if you allow your subject to engage in some sort of activity which is included in the shot. This will also help to relax the sitter and the end result will look far better than a forced pose. Natural is best. Your subject does not have to look directly into the camera and say ‘Cheese.’ You will achieve a much better shot if the sitter is looking in another direction or over your shoulder. Try it and see for yourself which you prefer.

Once your subject is relaxed take a few shots from several angles to create different effects. You can create vastly different shots by shooting from above or below the subject. Focus on the subject and reduce the depth of field to concentrate on the subject and fade the background out. Select the portrait mode if you are uncomfortable changing settings on your camera.

One of the most important factors in portrait photography is lighting. Wherever possible, natural light sources will provide the best results but nature often needs a helping hand. If you do not have access to professional lighting equipment it is possible to experiment with ready to hand equipment which can be cheaply adapted to deflect the light just by using cardbord etc. The built-in flash on a compact camera can sometimes give harsh results and should be avoided if possible.

Before involving the sitter it is best to take a few shots of the background to see if anything looks out of place. You won’t want to make too many adjustments to the surroundings once your subject is ready, especially if it is a child you are photographing, who will become easily distracted or bored. With a good size memory card you will be able to take as many shots as you like and discard any that you are not happy with. The best part of a digital camera is being able to see your results immediately and make any adjustments there and then.

Basic Professional Photography Poses!

Seeking out and learning various photography poses is the quickest and simplest route to becoming a sought after photographer. Even if you never decide to go “pro”, becoming a master of the basic photography poses will put pizzazz in your photography. If you want to start getting YOUR percentage of “oohs and aahs”, keep reading…

The Football player-

The most typical error I see in inexpert photos – and in more pro work than you may imagine is what I call the “Linebacker” pose.

Consider a professional football player. (The United States kind, not what we in the U.S. think of as soccer.) Size is a large component of their job. The bigger and wider they appear to be, the better. When they pose for photos, they try to face the camera’s lens straight on – making their shoulders look as wide as they can. They will want their hips and thighs to appear huge as well.

The more of the frame they can fill, the better – intimidation is their target.

Now picture virtually everyone else in the world-few of them are trying to appear intimidating in their pictures.

Take Off The Appearance Of Excess Size-

To help our model’s desire to get rid of that “footballer” look, simply have them twist their shoulders so they’re about 45 degrees to the lens. This appears natural, and is the most slimming pose. If they’re visible in the photo, the model’s hips, legs and feet should be turned too.

Rule of thumb-Shoulders, hips, legs and feet should never be straight on to the camera.

?Avoid??? The “Sumo Wrestler” Pose Too!

While linebackers want to look broad – they don’t necessarily want to appear fat! The only photo subject I can think of that actively has a use for looking fat is a Sumo wrestler.

Throughout the known universe, and even more so in the United States we almost ALL feel that we look too fat! (With valid reason.) It has turned into an obsession. How many times have you heard the phrase “the camera adds 10 pounds?” To make our subjects to visually lose some pounds, think about what makes us appear visually heavy! It’s the shadows!

We visually define shape by highlights and shadow. If we minimize shadows, people will look slimmer. Have your subjects posing in dark clothing and the shadows disappear – and so does the weight.

Start employing these two photography poses ideas and you’ll see immediate improvement in your photos.

Construction photography uses of photography in real estate

What is construction photography? Is it just taking pictures of the real estate projects or is it something different? It is different. It is not regular photos of a hotel or resort. In this style, pictures are taken from a height like 2000 feet above the ground level. Of course, the cameraman rides an aircraft to achieve that height.Real estate projects seen from the above fulfill a purpose that is keeping a close eye on the developments. Considering the number of men and machines involved in completing a project, it is mandatory for the developer to keep a close watch to determine the speed of development. The developer can view the entire project from a height. He can see the number of men and machines working at any given time. The developer can get the aerial pictures clicked from a professional cameraman.

Construction photography is an ideal way to keep an eye over the ongoing development work. Images taken in intervals can show the milestones achieved in a given period. Such images can be used in yearly reports, business presentations and to satisfy the investors. The images would help the developer determine how many men and machines are actually working, whether building material creating obstructions and are the vehicles parked at right place.Aerial pictures can be used to locate a specific machine or an important part of the project. For instance take surrounding garden. The pictures would show how the garden is maintained and whether it needs improvement or not. Similarly the pictures can be used to keep track of movement of building material so that nothing goes waste or lost.

Tons of building material is supplied to a big real estate project site and it is learnt that a lot of material goes waste due to strange reasons. Construction photography can locate the lost material on the site. In reality trucks carrying the material unload the material wherever they find space. In this way it becomes difficult for the contractors to keep track of the full material. But with aerial pictures they can find a convenient place for unloading expensive building material.Construction photography is an expensive art but it saves developers thousands of dollars and also helps them promote their projects. The pictures are taken at a set time and the photographer uses closes airport for riding an aircraft. This photography is taken as part of the real estate project.

Pack Photography – The Art Of Talking Without Words

It may be a terrible clich, but if a picture paints a thousand words, pack photography can shift stock. There’s just no other way of looking at it. If you want to sell a product then it is essential to make sure that the catalogue photo works as hard as anything else you try. In fact pack photography may well prove to be of more importance than any other tactic you use.

We live in an image driven world. We are all bombarded every day by media images, from web pages to flyers, television adverts to billboard posters, from product images on boxes to catalogue photos. Every day we are exposed to several hundred marketing images, and we have necessarily become extremely good at filtering most of them out. We have all developed an unerring tendency to identify at a sub conscious level which products and marketing messages are intended for us, and which may also be of some interest.

This is important, because the first thing to appreciate is that your pack photography isn’t something people will always look for. Your potential customers may well be entirely passive. A catalogue photo or promotional picture has to be proactive, grabbing the attention of your potential customer. But it’s also worth bearing in mind that this has to be achieved at a sub conscious level, and your photo has to include several key bits of information.

Every photograph has to be capable of informing your potential customers that this is a product, business or brand which is relevant to them. Remember, this has to be achieved at a subconscious level. So how do you catch your target audience’s attention sub consciously though a single photo? Don’t try answering that question as even the most experienced and professional catalogue photographer would probably have trouble answering the question succinctly. It requires an accurate and in depth understanding of your target audience to begin with.

You may spend a fortune on the most innovative, clever and attractive marketing image, but if it fails to catch the attention of the right kind of person, then every penny will have been wasted. It would be like spending thousands of pounds on banners and posters saying ‘Happy Birthday George’ when the person’s name is Fred, and it’s their anniversary. Fred will probably not even notice it, because at a sub conscious level he’ll ignore it. This is a gross simplification of the problem, but it cannot be emphasised enough that a good understanding of your target audience is the first step towards pack photography which communicates to the right people.

Understanding who you’re targeting is the first vital step towards developing pack photography which will ‘talk’ to those people in the right way. Clearly if your target audience includes professional business executives then using vibrant colours, motion blur and funky angles will pass them by, whereas if your target audience is teenagers then using flat, clean and straight edged images will probably do little to catch their attention. Professional marketing photographers know the many tricks of the trade which can be employed to make sure that every catalogue photo or pack photograph catches the sub conscious attention of the right target audience. But that’s only the first step.

Because once you’ve got the attention of your audience, you then have only a split second to sell your product. Research has clearly shown that once people glance at a photograph they make an internal decision as to its interest to them in under one second. If the old clich of a picture painting a thousand words is true, you have around a second to get your audience’s attention, hold that attention and sell the idea of your product to them, communicating those thousand words clearly, accurately, unambiguously and, above all, quickly. Pack photography is the art of speaking quickly, without using words.

Using Time-lapse Photography To Save Money On Construction Projects

Time lapse photography and time lapse footage can help save money and increase profit on both large scale and small scale construction projects. Its a bold claim, given that timelapse photography seems remote and far removed from the construction world, but lets think about this together, and see if we can reach any conclusions.

Time-lapse photography is a lengthy and difficult process, but essentially its where a series of photographs are taken from a fixed point at prescribed intervals, and then the individual shots or frames are edited together. When this edit is played back at 25 frames per second, it has the effect of condensing the passage of time into manageable chunks, where the viewer can easily see and appreciate large scale changes in only a couple of minutes.

How can this be of benefit to you if you are the construction manager or project manager on a building site? Well, any sufficiently complex construction project will have a well-defined, and rigidly adhered to, schedule of work. This schedule of work will tell the management team everything they need to know in terms of getting materials, plant and labour to the right place at the right time.

But how closely is this plan monitored against actual events? And how reliable is the information you have received? Having time-lapse footage of the entire project can give you an invaluable resource to compare against your schedule of work. You will be able to tell, visually, whether the materials, plant and labour arrived at the correct location, in the right order and at the right time. It will obviously be too late to do anything about it by this point. However, next time you have to write your schedule of work for the next project, you will have better knowledge and will be able to make a more informed choice about when to order what you need. That timelapse footage will enable you to get the equipment, materials and labour on site just-in-time, meaning that you wont be tying up valuable resources wastefully. That means more profit on the job, or the ability to offer services more cost effectively than your competitors.

One other way in which such services can not only save you money, but are very useful, is in the area of ultra high definition site monitoring. The best time-lapse companies offering time-lapse services also allow you to view your project through on-line viewers from desktops, smartphones and tablets. This means that you, your surveyors, architects, etc can view very clear images (much better than any webcam) to discuss and share etc. You can also offer this service to your clients and stake-holders etc. These images, taken with the correct HD equipment (Again NOT just webcams) can allow you to zoom into particular areas of your site/project to scrutinise particular detail. This makes any monitoring and discussions about the site very convenient, even for those who cannot get to the actual location of the project.

Plus.If all this wasnt enough any marketing people can use either the individual still frames, or even the live feed to websites in order to communicate to broader publics.

Sexy 3d Models And Pin Up Girls

Pin Up girls saw their heyday during World War II, when soldiers and sailors would put up pictures of the sexy ladies over their bunks. More recently, Pin Up Art has seen a revival through digital art and 3D models, such as DAZ Productions’ Victoria series. The artists have replaced their pens with 3D computer graphics software, and created modern-day pin-ups from the Vintage Pin-Up Girls.

During World War II, soldiers and sailors loved to look at their glamorous pin up models, which featured women posing in eye-pleasing, sexy positions. The phrase “pin up” originated in the 1940s. Usually, pin up girls wore revealing clothes and sultry looks on their faces; their images would adorn magazines, post cards, and even the noses of military aircraft. Pin ups are idealized representations of what a man wants a beautiful woman to look like.

Producers like DAZ Productions, with the Victoria series, have given pin up art a fresh new feel in Digital 3D 3D computer graphics frees the artist from their pens and easels, and brings the vintage pin up into the modern world. Graphic artists no longer need drawing or painting skills to bring pin ups to life. All that digital artists require, with the assistance of computer graphics software, is a basic understanding of composition, posing and lighting. Programs like Poser, Vue Infinite and DAZ Studio can be used to create 3D Human Models in a virtual scene with props. This digital composition brings Virtual Girls to life with Pin Up Art spirit. A little polishing with some graphics software brings it all together. Classic Vintage Pin-ups join the 21st centure using these radical techniques.

The art of the pin up isn’t dead; it’s just been democratized! This new way allows everyone to digitally create their own pin-up girls. Sub-divided polygonal architecture and a gorgeous skin texture bring your pin-up girl alive with a feminine feel. You can make sublime works of art that will shine with sensuality and beauty. At last, with 3D Pin-Up Girls, we have a modern answer to the Pin Up girls of the past.

Tokina 10-17 Review – A Fun Lens For Creative Photography Use

The Tokina 10-17 fisheye lens is a premium lens for either your Canon camera or Nikon camera. With a great rotary zooming system it’s a rather low priced lens compared to other lenses you may look up or have already purchased.

It provides great clarity and is one of my favorite lenses that I have ever purchased. I will list all the benefits and features of this lens below:

-This lens is optimized for either Canon or Nikon cameras showing it’s diversity among the different camera users.

-It has a minimum of f/22 to f/3.5 – 4.5 apertures range that allows a good amount of light into your camera’s image.

-The minimum focus distance is around 5.5 which is about 14cm. This allows you to get up close to the object without suffering any sharpness from the photo.

-The Rotary Zooming system allows you to zoom in on images with ease.

-The maximum outer diameter is around 2.75 which are 70mm.

-The lens type is a fisheye with a minimum focal length is 10mm and a maximum focal length of 17mm.

-With the fisheye lens you can create great special effects, with great sharpness towards the center of your images. This allows a lot of creative freedom for the photographer.

The Tokina 10-17mm fisheye lens is a great lens when you are dealing with any special effect projects. This lens is especially great for aerial photography, indoor photography and even portrait photography for kids!

It allows great sharpness towards the middle of the image and less sharpness on the outside of the lenses. Overall, I find this lens sharp enough for most creative purposes.

Tokina delivers a great product as they always do with a great lens that is usable for any Nikon or Canon Digital cameras. At the time of this writing, both Nikon and Canon still do not produce their own zoom fisheye lens.

Note that this is not an everyday camera lens, it is a lens that should be used for your own artistic views or making a creative move with your pictures. That being said, you can take out this lens from your camera bag whenever you feel like lacking in creativity.

Overall, I recommend the lens for anyone into photography and are in the market for a high quality fisheye lens. For a zoom fisheye lens, this might be your only options currently on the market.
